What is Athleisure?
Casual, comfortable clothing designed to be suitable both for exercise and everyday wear. Clothing like yoga pants, tights, sneakers, leggings etc.
Blame it on designer athleisures, but there’s hardly a man or woman who doesn’t rock in them be it on the school run, in the line for morning coffee, over a business lunch, or even drinks, performance wear as everyday wear for women and men of all ages is becoming de rigueur. It seems that it is now totally acceptable to wear your outfit all day, every day even if you haven’t worked out.
It’s a trend. People of all ages are wearing their workoutwear all day now, whether it’s leggings with a longer coat and a scarf, or someone younger wearing a cropped T-shirt with a denim jacket and some high-heeled boots. People shop for their athletic-wear thinking, How can I wear this from the studio to the street?
Some people used to feel really shy coming out in their sports wear but right now that’s warded off ; no one cares if you’re in your athletic wear.
Here are five golden rules for working your athletic-wear into your daily routine:
1. KEEP UP WITH TRENDS
Every year, sometimes every other month we see new trends to follow. Same thing happens with our athletic-wears. Every year something new comes out (it could be in fabric trend, color trend or style trend) so be sure to stay informed.
2. INVEST IN ‘FUNCTION & FASHION’ MIXED PIECES
First and foremost, it’s got to be clothing made using performance fabrics so it’s not see-through when you bend forward, you can’t see cellulite through it. The workout apparel is made from performance fabric, so it’s quick drying, it’s odor resistant, it’s moisture wicking.
3. ACCESSORIZE APPROPRIATELY
It only takes one piece to take your athleisure look from gym to street.
4. DRESS FOR THE OCCASION
If you’re going to go in the athleisure look on a casual lunch date, be sure to dress for the occasion. I would never turn away anyone unless they were wearing something completely inappropriate like a sports bra or shirt and tights.
5. LEAN ON NEUTRALS
If you’re just starting to flow with the athleisure trend, there’s no need putting yourself out there by wearing vibrant colors. Stay calm and start with geometric prints or stick to black, white and gray and when you begin to feel comfy in then you can move into brighter colors.
